Farmall Cub
So I am looking at purchasing a used JD650 I saw and wanted to check some things out. Let me start by saying I own a 1953 Farmall Cub. I used it primarily to cut a 2 acre field. It has a sickle bar and did a great job there but other than that I used my Bobcat for everything else. Well I now have a 5 plus acre piece of property that is pretty flat. I've got a 100 foot of driveway that is gravel to maintain. Some of my future projects include a new fence as the last fence just got destroyed during a microburst.

So the JD 650 I saw was in my price range and in decent shape. It is 4x4 with a FEL so I think it would meet all my needs. The only question I have is what issues I can look forward to dealing with. I can do some wrenching I've maintained the Cub as well as 4 ATV'S and a couple snowmobiles. I do basic service on the Bobcat but they aren't easy to maintain. I'm looking to unload the bobcat as it's a pain to haul and tears up the lawn.

Is there anything in particular I should be looking at before purchasing?

Thanks

Larry

I can mow 5 acres in a couple hours,, if the grass is "lawn" tall,,

I would not want a loader on my 650,,, no power steering,,

I liked the 650 so much, I bought an 855, with a loader, a month later,,

My daughter then moved in right next door,,, 13 acres,,,
GUESS which one she snatched??

Oh, well,, I enjoy the turf tires better than the AG tires,,, anyways,,,

The 650 "helps" with the driveway,,

but, I really have a bigger tractor for doing that stuff.
I have mowed about 4 acres a week this summer with the 650.

I have both a JD750 and JD755. I bought the 750 for the end loader and backhoe. I bought the 755 for the 60" mower deck. I have over three acres and the 755 does a great job no problem. Both tractors have the 3 cylinder diesel and both have 4 wheel drive.John Deer 750-2.jpgJD755-1.jpgJD755-2.jpgJohn Deere 750-1.jpg

Make sure the PTO works. If it has not been used in a long time the PTO clutch can stick and not release. PTO clutch disc "rusts" to the flywheel.

Are you talking about the 750 or the 755 or both of them? I use both tractors a lot. The 750 to dig holes and move dirt. The 755 to mow the lawn. Would I have notice a problem by now?

Since you are doing PTO work with both you would have noticed if the PTO failed the stop when disengaged. Sounds like yours are fine.

Those are some really nice green Yanmar tractors.

As for the JD650, the Yanmar 2-cly is a workhorse.
