Looking at an l245dt that has been sitting outside for the past 6 or 7 years at a local park, maybe longer. Front wheels are off, but the rims are there. The tractor was running fine when parked for painting, but has been sitting there since. Steering not working. Don't know how many hours on it. lots of rust, but all fixable. Front plow on it and front end loader sitting near by. Exhaust stack was not capped.
I don't want to try to start it where it's at. Question is: I know the guy will take $1000 for it, is it worth it? Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thats a tough call. If it has a FEL and you can get it running then its a good deal but the engine may be locked and God knows what else.
Any chance of at least putting a bar & socket on crank and trying to bar over? If it turns over thats no absolute that the engine is okay however.
Just be prepared to put a couple of grand in parts if you do buy, then ask yourself if you really want it.
Its really only worth a parts tractor if at all. 1K is pushing it in my opine.

One way to see if the engine will turn is to jack up one rear wheel and put the trans in 4th hi-range (best advantage for turning the engine by turning a rear wheel) If the engine will turn and has compression in all 3 cylinders $1000 may be ok -good luck - might be a fun project.
