looking at buying this tractor.. is the price ,what he is asking worth it? can that type of repair be acomplished pretty easy.. or is it a pain? what are the 1230's basically used for? here is the ad that he posted? thanks for any info
FOR SALE
1996 model Massey Ferguson 1230 w/HST and a front-end loader, 4wd, turf tires, PTO, 3 point hitch and only 727 hours.
This is a strong 25 HP tractor that is a pleasure to drive and operate. It is a little rough looking because it’s been kept outside, so the paint is starting to fade. I had it in the shop for routine servicing on January 5th of this year for a 200 hour servicing. I've had this tractor for one year myself and have put almost 200 hours on it.
I was working with the tractor when I lost all movement. The engine and hydraulics work great but just no movement. I put it in the shop and discovered that the clutch housing is cracked and has caused the engine to become disengaged from the hydrostatic transmission. Now I know why the guy I bought it from was selling it! The shop gave me the part numbers for the necessary repairs but I just don’t have the time, place or ability to do the repair work myself. The new casing and kit(p/n 71515631)of nuts, bolts, shims, bushings etc. will cost less than 700 to get, but the shop man-hours drive the final price for repair way out means.
If you have the mechanical aptitude to take on this work, then you will have a great tractor well worth the price of $4200 obo.
E-mail me to set-up a time to come by a look it over. For a final price of less than $5000, you will be getting a great deal.
