Looking at buying this trailer --- No brakes

/ Looking at buying this trailer --- No brakes #21
I am guessing that there is no Federal Law about the axles, so if it falls to the state then they would have a law ont he books that could be found. For a law man or woman to make a statement they are illegal they must back it up with a referenc to a law. A judge would have a field day with something like that.Ive seen a many officers in court not being able to back up their charges.
I am kind fo curious what would go wrong with them also. The metal is weaker? I can understand the tires might be less strong.
So again I imagine its a state law. and then it might not be a law in all states. Only way is to contact a DMV and ask. They will back it up with a reference to the law they site. I have done this throught the mail all the time..

...[If] they are actual trailer axles and they have the brackets that are needed then adding brakes is fairly easy...

I'm going to rebutt this statement due to my own personal experience. You can read the saga here if you want. I bought a trailer and did my due diligence to check for backing plates, etc. The axle I have is a weird size, and I can't find brake kits for it anywhere.

That trailer is a gamble. It may have brakes already on it that were never hooked up (seen it) or it may be some totally oddball contraption that there's no hope of upgrading. If you do go look at it, look closely, and be sure that the price is low enough to warrant the gamble.
