Looking at lx 490, need some advice from owners.

As a long time Yanmar tractor owner, I presently have two older tractors, 186d, 135d, I am in the market for a compact tractor for my 50 acres, half wooded half pasture. Been looking at all major brands. Really like the Mihindra 5035 and the MF 1655. I wish the LX was a little bigger in hp and pto hp. Im a little concerened with the small displacement engine of the lx 490. Can anyone give me their impression of the the lx 490. What are you doing with your tractors. Can it handle a 6' rotary cutter easily. How do you like the tractor and any problems. Thanks. By the way, whould't this forum be retitled "Yanmar compact tractors"

I had a lx450, it was a monster... It'll handle a 6' rotary cutter without even breaking a sweat!

I recently purchased an LX490 and thus far have been very impressed with it. Great build quality, lots of power, great fit and finish. I haven't had the chance to put it to work yet, but very soon when it dries out. I added the front valve and purchased a grapple, and also got the dual rear remotes. Will be moving logs/stumps, brushcutting, and trail/property maintenance on 62 acres. I still need to load the rear tires and get a HD box blade for trails and counterweight. The engine is a bit smaller displacement than the LX 450/410, but with the turbo it makes more HP. I also have 2 72" brush hogs, (probably need to sell 1) and I'm sure the 490 will not have an issue at all. I was running one behind my older Cub 28 HP, and it would pull it up hills, albeit probably a bit too much mower for that size tractor.
I will definitely update on the work I do with this machine, but I'm quite convinced it will be an absolute workhorse.

Went to drive anlx 490 yesterday. Did not have a fel on it and it was last years modle with the "cub cadet/Yanmar" sticker. As expected, extremely smooth with excellent build quality. I do not like the plastic fenders and hood and am concerned with the smaller displacement. I have driven mihindras 5035 which is a total beast with 153 displacement. Build quality not the same but it is not far off. the thing is a tank and specs out higher than anything in the same class. Also drove the Massey Ferguson 1652 which is Iseki built and as such has excellent build quality. It has an engine with 180 displacement and in nice. I could probably be happy with the lx 490 if I could get a good deal. I can get the mihindra for about $25 k with a fel. The MF is about $27,500 for the same. Do not feel I can pay more for the Lx and get less even for the build quality. I did see a lx490 on the net new with 10 hours and fel for $20,300. Now that was a deal. I called and it was sold two days ago. The dealer with the lx 490 leftover is not inclined to come close to that number so we will see. How much is it to add the two rear remotes. Thanks for all the help.

SOME of the tractors that are still "CCY" can be had for GREAT deals, because the CC dealers that did not sign over to Yanmar had to sell their inventory at a reduced rate. That's how I got my LX with front aux valve, and rear remotes for 22K. The rear remote kit is $1000, as is the front valve. They are supposed to be dealer installed options, but I've put them on myself with no problems.
Where are you located? I know where some of these LX 450's and 490's are that can be had for a great deal.....:thumbsup:
Several months ago I hauled 3 loads of these tractors to a friend of mine who's a big Cub/Yanmar dealer in MI.

Scoutcub. I live in Southwest Va. One hour west of Roanoke. I like your name. My other hobby is collecting old IH Scouts, Trucks and Travelalls. My guess is that you might own a scout or two. I have a couple of yanmar tractors, 135d and 186d. Both american market yanmars and henc the association with Yanmar Brand. My IH association is self evident with the Cub Cadet Brand, although not the same since Ih sold out in the early 1980s. I do like the lx490, wish yanmar was selling a 55 or 60 hp tractor. That is really what I need. How do you like your tractor and what, if anything, would you change.

SSG - 2 peas in a pod! I was raised with Scouts, that's all my dad used to buy when I was a kid. Loved those things, and they were brutes! I remember plowing snow with the 4 cyl 196 CI scout that didn't even breath hard...:laughing:
Years ago I got into buying/rebuilding/selling scouts, and had 2 keepers....loved those rigs. Must've owned 12 or 15 of em!
I love the 490, currently in the process of adding the rear remotes right now. Will start doing some real work with it here in a few weeks. The only thing I didn't like was the lack of a step on the right side of the tractor....so bought one to add, problem sloved. Actually bought it from Yamnar, the step from the left side...I thought they'd cost a fortune....but only 15 bucks. :thumbsup:
I bet I could deliver a LX490 to your doorstep for around 23K!!!

Scoutcub. What part of Ohio are you in, Inlaws live in Gallipolis. Since the last post have been looking at a bit larger tractors. Drove the Kubota m6040 and Mihindra 5035s over the weekend. Like I said. I could probable get into a yanmar if it were a tad bigger. Are your a dealer?

No, not a dealer. Have been buying & selling Cubs for the last 12 years as a hobby - currently have 3 machines for sale. I can buy some of these machines at reduced prices from one of my buddies. (dealers)

I'm in Dover, just south of Canton.

I JUST finished installing my rear remotes, wasn't too bad of a project....
