Looking to find a lightly used 3pt disc to run behind a JD5205. Preferrably 7ft, but may be able to go 6-8. Located in central IL. Any ideas let me know.
Thanks.

Check the classifieds.. local tractor and salvage yards.. implement and tractor dealers.. etc..

cruise some back roads in farm country.. the fun is in finding it!

If your like me I finally gave trying to get a reasonable deal on a used one. Smaller (cat 1) implements of any kind get over 1/2-3/4 new price and with scrap iron price what they are, there is no used implements in this area. So, I just wandered into the local KingKutter distributor and bought new and pretty glad I did as I got a solid box frame disc with roller bearings. It's been a good disc. My only thing that I should've done is get one with notched disc's all the way around instead of just the front ones. It would've been better for chomping up old vegetation. I gave $1000 for a 6-1/2 footer. bjr

I am so jealous of these folks who can find deals on good used equipment and/or the skills to fix not so good used equipment. I just have no luck at it. I think part of the problem is that hunting and food plots are so popular around here that everyone has a CUT of some sort and all of them are looking for and buying up all the good used stuff.

In any case, I looked for a used disk for a long time and finally gave up and bought a Leinbach. I've had it about 4-5 months now and it works great. I wouldn't claim that it is vastly superior to a KingKutter but I think it is a bit better and the 7 foot 20" x 20 disk was about $900. It is also box frame, no angle iron. Has screw adjustable gang angles which I love. Otherwise pretty similar to the KK. The paint on mine was really ugly. Gobs and drips everywhere. But, no flaking, rust or bare areas so I think its fine. The paint on the KKs is usually pretty poor to. All in all I'd call it a toss up with the exception of the lower price (in my area) and the screw adjustment.

I am like some of the others, I tried looking for a used lift disk for several months and ran up against time and had to buy a new 6 1/2 foot disk. Not complaining given the disk works great, but over the last several weeks in my area, I have seen several disk for sale on craigslist. I would check the craigslist website for your local area as there may be bargains to find. Good luck.

Small 3pt disks around here always command a higher price. They're just right for most yard gardeners looking to raise tomatoes. You also have to bid against the multitude of landscapers. If you could live with a draw-bar set, your price will drop to a couple of 100's. Or Spend a day or two and make your own 3pt for the draw hitch.

From what I understand the draw bar disks do a better job all the way around and it is true, you see them lying around all over the place, rusting. I think the majority of the ones I see could be fixed up. But, there are two problems. One, many of us have small food plots/gardens and there really isn't enough room to turn around with pull type disks. Two, most of the ones I say are not wheel disks (or the wheels are gone) which makes it hard to get them from place to place.
