Does anyone know where you can buy a 3-pt splitter with a 4 way wedge. I split a face cord by hand with a 8# maul yesterday and can hardly move today. My tractor will be ready by the weekend the BTR grapple rake finally arrived from CE attachments we placed the order Sept 28th and they originally told us 2 weeks. Their excuse has been the East Coast and Florida buying all they could get their hands on so I've tried to be patient. I know this will sound funny to some of you folks but I trust my dealer to the point that believe it or not I bought the tractor late September and the first time I actually started and drove the tractor was last friday 10-29-04 it looks like it is going to do the job although it would have been nice to buy something a little smaller than a M9000. I just needed the heavier Loader and larger hydraulic pump as it is going to be brutalized for a while cleaning up the ranch, building a house and setting lots of fence post.

Try looking at Timber Wolf splitters they have a 3PH and stand alone models that have a 4-way wedge feature. On the unit I looked at the horizontal wings slide over the main vertical wedge so you have the option of two or four pieces per cycle.

Now that is what I call a wood splitter.

I have a Timberwolf splitter with a 4 way wedge, the smallest free standing model they make. I have used it the last 2 years to split about 10-12 cords that I use for home heat and my small maple sugaring operation. It really is an excellent splitter, a little pricey at $2,000, but I think the ones for a tractor are less. It has split everything I have put on it though the real large stuff has to be split first with just the regular wedge. One of the reasons I bought this splitter is that they are made in Rutland, VT, about 20 miles east of me just in case I need parts!

Gregmvt, what is the model numerb of your splitter?
I see several out on their web.
I'm looking at the tw5 36" model for splitting for my waterstove.
I haven't gotten a quote yet from the local dealer.

I'm still looking into building one myself, I've got the steel beams already and have priced a 30" x 5" cylinder that's not too high. I'm thinking that I could do my own for a little over 1k with engine and several weekends of working on it.
My time is probably the hardest thing to get right now /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

thanks

I have the TW-P1. The model you are looking at comes with the 4-way wedge, I had to buy mine seperate. The TW-5 has the option of getting a 6-way wedge, somthing that could come in handy if you are doing a lot of large logs.

Talk about your sticker shock /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif, a local dealer quoted me a price of $5800 for the tw5 with a 4way.... I think I'm going to go with the 30" model from Northern Tool for about $2600 with a honda engine.
