I am looking for a good, reasonably priced 7' finish mower. Does anyone have any recommendations? I am hoping to keep the price below $2500...and (just like everyone else on here) would love to find a good bargain.

We have gotten really good service from our Caroni; don't know present prices though.

Agri-Supply carries the Caroni mowers & has a 93" for about $1710 & a 71" for about $1470 (local pickup - w/out shipping). I don't think they have an 84" model...

Everything Attachments has an 84" Farmtrac model that looks nice for about $2700, but that includes shipping.

The best seven foot machines for are area has been double spindle unit.

I like them as well, twin tail wheels give a smooth ride so they often can mow a little faster on rough ground.

The twin blade units also sit closer to the tractor and the leverage is not as bad as with a single spindle. And they do less scalping as the width and the depth of the deck will add to the potential of it.

Other then the fact of sitting closer they also take less horsepower to run!

Biggest problem I see here is the dollar limit is a bit to low!

I bought my used Landpride 7 ft finish mower for $600. It needed new tires, a new belt and blades. I've hit stumps twice with it and had to repace the shaft/bearing components each time. I've never had another brand, so all I can say is what I know about mine.

Solid tires are a must. I fought flat tires over and over again. Mostly it was from the tires coming off of the rims. Changing to solids was like night and day.

Landpride is a partner with Kubota. I get parts there, and it's very simple and easy. They also have a very good website with a very detailed parts list. Service for your mower is more important then price, color or size.

Mine is a side discharge mower. It spray grass out the side quite a distance, and if it's on the long side, it creates trails across the grass that take a few days to disapear. I've heard that read discarge is better for this, but can't say for sure.

Mine is wider on the opossite side of the discarge. It sticks out about six inches more on my left side, while sitting in my tractor. This is nice for mowing along my fenceline and around my pond.

The first mowing with it was kind of rough, but then it got real nice and the results have been amazing. Of course, with the drought we're having here in Texas, I haven't even used it this year. I bush hoged once this year and thats all I've done all year.

Good luck,
Eddie
