Winter is coming and I'm toying with the idea of getting a back blade to clear our 900ft road. Last winter we really didn't get much snow so I never bothered to plow. But, what snow we did get got packed into a sheet of ice you would have thought was groomed with a zamboni.

I've been looking on CL, but haven't really found anything worth the effort. Most are very light duty or look like they've been at the bottom of a lake for the last 20 years.

Anything I should be looking for specifically? Guessing I should be looking at a 7' I already have a 78" EA box blade that works well. I looked at their HD blade and it seemed nice but more $ than I had anticipated. The lighter one seemed too light. Yeah, it's only snow, but it might be helpful to have it do some dirt work as well.

I use a Land Pride series 35 rear blade for snow removal(RB3596). It's heavy duty and will definitely remove snow, so there is no buildup turning into ice. One thing - If you plan on using a rear blade in an offset & angled position - be sure you get a blade that is wide enough. My rear tire width - outside to outside - is 80 inches. It takes the full width of my 96 inch back blade to plow about 12 inches wider than the side I'm offset too and still clear snow as wide as the outside of the tire on the opposite side. Its the angle you set to plow the snow to the side of the road that eats up the width of the back blade. A 96 inch wide back blade set at an angle WILL NOT plow a path 96 inches wide. Plowing snow is definitely one area where you want the plowed path to be wider than the rear wheel width.

The tires on my DK50SE are only about 70" wide as my 78" BB still sticks out by several inches on each side. Thus why I was thinking an 84" blade might get it done even when angled 20 deg or so. I'll do the math before my final decision.

I highly recommend a 96" blade for use with your size tractor. I may be wrong, because I don't have to do snow any to often, but I think that you will be much better off with more of an angle than 20 degrees. I would think a minimum of 35 degrees myself.

Good luck with your decision, keep an eye on used. There have been many TBN members that have purchased blades that cost 3- $4000 new for under $1500 used.

with a 8ft blade on a 35HP tractor it won't be very versatile except for snow and for snow and only snow i would agree getting the biggest you can handle

I would go down to yoder & frey located in archbold OH.(just over the boarder) and see what they have for about 25 percent less (price wise)than the local dealers. You will be glad you did.

I thought that he had a DK50SE. Does that only have 35hp? I'm confused.
