Can anyone suggest a good PTO chipper. I'm looking to get the most bang for my buck. I have a JD 4110 20 HP that I will be running it with. I'm guessing that 4 1/2" is the most I'll be able to handle with that hp. The thing I don't want is to have to push the material into the machine. Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks,
Greg

I just bought a Wallenstein BX-62 (I believe) that will take up to 6 inch material. It's non-hydraulic feed, but as many have said, it will snatch it out of your hand and gooble it up quick. They have a 4 inch version that I assume works equally as well for a smaller tractor.

I've only chipped about a truckload of chips so far, enough to teach me how to properly feed that thing and get outta the way so as not to be attacked by limbs. I've got the bruises and scratches and one very sore finger to prove I've now been taught :D

I had to cut about an inch off of the shafts (metal blade in a sawsall), and put on the exhaust tube thing that they took off for shipping. After that I was chipping.

Do a search on pto chipper here in the forum and you will get a lot of great info. I just went through the same thing and ended up finding what best fit my needs and wants.

I sell the orginial Jinma PTO wood chipper and have sold several to tractorbynet members here. It is a cat 1 , 540 pto speed.

The Jimna is a 6 inch chipper with a mechanical feed. We service and prep them before they leave our shop and offer a one year parts only warranty.

The weight of the chipper is around 800 pounds.

Don't know where you are located ??

I use a MacKissic TPH-122 on my 4010. I've NEVER bogged it down. Have had 3 other stand-alone (not 3PH) chippers that I would bog down at regular intervals. The TPH-122 will take about 3" stuff. They make a "commercial" one that'll take bigger stuff; someone has written herein that they make the ones for DR, which take up to 4 1/2".

This is the easiest to maintain chipper or shredder I've ever owned. There is a technique to removing the allen screws holding the chipper blade, to avoid stripping the screws out inside.

RalphVa,
Would you mind sharing that technique ?

I just bought a Wallenstein BX42 chipper to use with my Kubota B2620 which has about 19 PTO hp. I haven't used it much yet, but I have used it to it's 4+ inch capacity (actually it will take a 4" X 6" plank) So far, I really like this chipper it self feeds very well without adding the hydraulic feed option. I doubt anything works much better in this size range, and it is a very simple machine to maintain. (no belts, etc.) Good luck in your search, and choice!

I have the entry level PTO powered Bearcat shredder/chipper that is rated to handle about 5 inch stuff as I recall. I used it on my 20hp Kioti CK20 and it worked fine. It is a little cheaper than the equivalent Wallenstein and I think about the same build/design quality. It's heavy with a ?120lb flywheel so it is in a different league from the lighter duty products like the DR or MacKissic. I got mine used for $1200 but I think they retail for about $2500 or so.
