I am in the early stages of planning a project for my tractor that is mainly an hydraulic one. I am looking for a valve that works like I think the valve on my log splitter works, but in both directions.

The valve I am looking for needs to control an hydraulic cylinder. I need to activate the valve remotely, either by it being a 12v solenoid valve or by using a pneumatic cylinder acting on an standard hydraulic valve lever. Here is what I think the tricky part is, I need the valve to reach full extension and as soon it does and say it hits something low like 700 psi the valve lever (if it has one) flips back to neutral while the cylinder stays in the extended position. On the next command I need it to retract and have the valve flip to the neutral position when full retraction has occurred (just like my log splitter does).

Does anybody know of such a valve?

TIA,
BWSwede

That's called a SCV (Self Cancelling Valve). Very common on Farm tractors. When the implement cylinder reaches the end of it's stroke the valve is automatically kicked back to neutral.

My Ford has SCVs that also have "float" function. Doesn't sound like you want that.

Where my experience stops is with remote operation. I have a solenoid valve operating my 3rd function on the FEL. But it is not self cancelling. I hold a button to move the cylinder. Release the button to stop action.

Maybe Brian (mtnviewranch) will see this and chime in. He's also a distributor and can probably sell you the equipment you need.

Thanks ovrszd.

Now that I have read your reply and have put more thought into it, what I described above may not work for me, but what you describe on your 3rd function is intriguing.

How does the remote work on your cylinder? When you hold the button (momentary switch I presume) the cylinder extends. When you let go of the button the cylinder movement stops. How do you retract the cylinder?

Thanks again,
BWSwede

Two buttons on the loader joystick. One extendss. One retracts. Operated by my thumb.

Got it, thanks.

In a setup similar to yours do you know if it is possible to tap a button and have the cylinder extend all the way, then self-cancel and hold the piston extended. Then, when needed, tap the other button and retract the cylinder all the way until it self-cancels and holds the piston retracted?

Thank you,

I do not know that. Hoping Brian would chime in. He knows all. :)
