Need some help finding a 5:1 in-line speed reducer good for 15 HP service. I can adapt the input and output shafts to its end use use. It can be base mounted or shaft mounted. Big brand names like browning are too expensive for the application. This is a supplement to my other thread about front mounting a bush hog. This is the last piece of the puzzle. If I find the reduction gear I will post the whole scheme on that thread.

How close do you need? You might find a transmission that has a gear pretty close.

i am going to say just go with a couple pulleys and a belt. that way if and when you do hit something with blades. the belt will slip vs damaging something else. i am guessing the snow blower

or go with gears and a chain. and deal with a slip clutch or shear bolt placed into the mix.

not sure if you caught above calculates from surplus center (via techsupport pages)

if you wanted to raise GPM and/or max pressure that the standard hyd system on tractor provides, you could go with a pto hyd pump (off back of tractor) and run up to FEL were the rotatory cutter is attached.

i just typed below into google as keywords....
5:1 gearbox
and got a lot of hits for different types of speed reducers.

will still push you towards FEL mounting and going with hydraulic motor. even if it means pushing ya to learn more about hydraulics.

Most automotive gearbox ratios don't get much higher than 4:1 in first gear.
I think Boggen's advice is good: use a belt or chain system to get
your in-line reduction. What you are aiming for is a "2 stage reverted train", like this one:

By using a two, identical pairs of sprockets or sheaves, you can keep the shaft centers in-line. To get a 5:1 ratio, you'll need 2 reductions of as close to 2.236 as you can get (square root of 5). Two sets of 40 and 18 (2.222:1) tooth sprockets will get you to 4.94:1, which should be close enough.

Thanks for the reply, previously I looked through all their stuff. No 5:1 in line type that I found at 15 HP. All are either angle or dual output in the HP range I need. As soon as I have time I am going to call around as most catalogs on line are very confusing. HP is a big factor for this application.
