Looking for a Used JD mid 30s HP

Sold my 1720, so now looking for a JD 32-35 hp machine.

Currently locally on CL there are:

JD 4310 275 hours looks nice 17.5K
JD 4300 900 hours with canopy bushhog & blade 16K
JD 4400 ?? hours with canopy 12K

Do these seem like decent options?

Are you also looking at any used 3x20 series tractors?

Not sure if you're interested in slightly larger, or financing your rig, but if a utility tractor suits you, I suggest looking at a new 5D series Deere. I got my 5045D with a 512 loader, frontier pallet forks, 73" bucket, hood guard, block heater and 16.9" loaded R1 tires delivered to my door for $22,000. Certainly more than used, but when you factor in 0% financing for 60 months, the payment may not be much more than the used ones you spoke of. The 5d's don't necessarily have the creature comforts of some of the others, but you get a heck of a lot of bang for your buck, and mine has done absolutely everything I've asked of it. Pretty handsome rig too if you ask me...

Plus with new you get a little comfort knowing your investment is protected by a warranty...at least for a little while.

Calling it an investment is a sales trick. It's worth a fair amount less the second it rolls off the lot, and is essentially guaranteed to decline in value over time....not much of an investment when it's a guaranteed loss from the start!

With that said, a warranty is one if the reasons I just bought new....if it breaks, it's their problem

I'll concede that it's not an investment in the sense that stocks, bonds, real estate, etc. are. They can, however bring in far more capital than the original purchase price...although I think the greater majority of us use them for stuff that will never put us in the plus. Perhaps "protecting your asset" would be a better phrase. Or better yet "protecting your amount of indebtedness" is probably more accurate. If I'm spending that much money, I like having the security of knowing that *most* problems will be corrected by the dealer, while spending slightly less on used gives you no assurances whatsoever. So it's a gamble...Buy used, taking the risk that nothing bad will happen or accepting the consequences if it does, or spend more up front betting that something WILL happen...a gamble either way, but with finance charges on used machines, you stand a good chance of one fairly pricey incident putting you at the price of new. Plus it's really cool seeing a brand new machine pull in your yard...albiet one I only care to pay for once!!! ;-)
