Kubota B8200
Hello!
I purchased a Kubota B8200 in October of 2011 and couldn't be happier with it so far. Handles my 5 acre upkeep with ease! SO... Last weekend I purchased a 3pt Backhoe with PTO hydraulic pump. When I went to mont it to my rear pto, the fabricated piece that stabilized the pump was about two inches below the holes above the shield where I thought it would bolt right up to (had to remove the shield just to get it on). When I went to lock on the PTO receiver, the shaft is about an inch longer than where the locking mechanism would seat into the shaft?
I have some good hose length to the pump, so I thought "ah-ha!"... must be a mid pto mount! Looked under my tractor and do not see a mid PTO? I went ahead and rigged the pump to the rear pto to test it and the back hoe works great.
My questions are:
Should my tractor have a mid PTO and does this sound like a "standard" mid mount pump?
Can this be modified to work on a rear pto? The pto receiver is actually just bolted to a shaft that comes out of the pump... looks like it could be swapped/replaced easily.
Are there "kits" available for my circumstances, either tractor or implement?
Does any of this sound familiar to other owners with 3 point backhoe attachments?
Any and all advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

About yout backhoe:
Are you sure the PTO lock was fully released?

you need to tell the dealer that your pump mounting/carrier does not match up with your B8200's Male PTO mount and ask for the proper mounting weldment.

NOW- your Back pump must have a male shaft with a coupler that has two female ends correct????????????????????????????????

One end couples to the PTO stub of the tractor and has a locking pin or collar with little blass that lock in the groove of the PTO stub and the other end has a female end with a keyway that slides over the male pump shaft I HOPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bolting the pump mount in place keeps the pump whre it belongs at all times.

Bracket: Drill new holes. Or have a welder shop make you a new one. Different tractors have different hole positions around the pto area, who knows what tractor the backhoe was on previously.

Some of these designs only have a brace that rests on the tractor drawbar to keep it from spinning, and a chain to keep it from getting spun backwards. The pump just hangs on the pto shaft basically with a handle to keep it from spinning. They don't like the pump bolted down hard and out of straight alignment from the pto. so if you rebuild the bracket, be sure it is lighned up real good.

Coupler: Anything is possible and if this was a home-made fabrication of parts for sure anything is possible, but most pto pumps are designed to work with as many tractors as possible, so if this is a 'factory setup' I would expect it to be a 560 rpm rear pto setup. That would be normal, mid-ptos turn a lot faster, don't they?

What type of coupler does the pump have on it, some have a thumb button with a locking rod, some have a push collar with locking balls, some have a twist & push collar - got a picture, got it figured out how it works? Would be odd to not fit your tractor pto. Some of those designs are not intuitive..... If what you have won't fit your tracotr, yes they make lots of collars that will work.

I assume this is a CL type of purchase, and you can't look at the manual or ask the dealer....

Here are some pictures. You can see that the part of the PTO shaft where the locking thumb pin would seat is to long for the female receiving bolt? Picture also shows how it doesn;t mount up properly. Also, does anyone recognize this make and/or model backhoe? Thoughts on making this work with my Kubota?

I will start this by saying in no stretch of the definition am I an expert on this topic. It seems similar though to the pump I put on my PTO to pressurize my sprayer. I have a piece of angled gavanized steel with holes in it that you can buy at any hardware store. It is 6 or 8 inches long and bolted to the pump. And I have a small chain attached to it that I wrap through the holes in the draw bar to keep the pump from spinning and wrapping up the hoses when you turn the PTO on.

It looks to me like that is the purpose of the bracket that is on yours. But it sticks out so far that it probably hits the back of the tractor before the PTO mechanism locks. If that is the case I would think you could cut some of that bracket off and drill a couple of holes through it and put a chain on it as described above. At least in the case of my pump for the sprayer, it doesn't bolt to the tractor, you just don't want it to spin.

This link is to a pump sold through Tractor Supply with the bracket on it and the chain.

That looks like something that will work for mounting! Thanks! Any thoughts on the PTO shaft issue? Does someone sell receivers that can be swapped on the pump? BTW - The backhoe was painted orange... I don't think its a Kubota... any thoughts on what it might be? I picked it up on craigslist and don't have a manual...

I would daresay it is not meant for a mid-mount PTO. They usually run around 2000 rpm, mostly for mowers and blowers.
If it runs fine on your rear 540 PTO, then thats it....just need to fabricate a mounting bracket.

Good luck!

When I bought my pump, I also had to buy a couple that went onto the front of the pump and on the other end had the sleeve type mechanism that went onto the PTO. See the link. You may need to take the pump to someone that can look at it and tell you what you need.

The bracket on the pump is to prevent the pump body from turning. If you remove it the pump should slide onto the PTO shaft and lock into place. You will have to modify the bracket or make a new one. I have a WOODS backhoe with a similar pump setup and the bracket hangs below the pump and is notched to fit on either side of the fixed draw bar.

Does anyone have any pictures of their backhoe pump setup they could share? I'd like to get an idea of what I'll need to fabricate...
