With your budget and wish list I'd strongly recommend selling and buying a condo property in town where you pay someone else to do the outdoor maintenance.

FYI The horse will cost you more to maintain than what you are willing to spend on the tractor.

Mikester, I respectfully disagree. It's doable, especially in this area. I live not too far from the OP. I started my farm 20 years ago, and my first tractor was a 1951 Ferguson TO-20, which I got in 2000, for $2500, and it came with a rear snowblower, which I immediatly sold for $500. That little tractor got me thru my first year, and then I realized I needed a bigger tractor with a loader, so I got a 1967 Oliver 1550, at an auction for $5000. Those two tractors did whatever I needed for many years, operating my dairy goat farm.

I like your tractor... a bit expensive machine though... unless you work with it for a living..or made your cash off others backs. Have a great day, I know i will :)

Two things I would consider.
Local dealer/mechanic.. what is common to them? This means easier time getting it worked on if needed and obtaining parts if needed "right away" and not shipped.

I would be looking for a used 2wd IH 584/684 with a 2250 (or right sized) mount-a- matic loader. A good one that us not on the verge of an engine O/H will be a little more than your budget.

I had an IH784 with such a loader. Loader went on and off easily which was nice when I was mowing or doing other no loader work. The machine was heavy so moving big round bales was easy. Had to use rear tire chains in winter.
