Looking for automatic gate opener

My second Mighty Mule was a significant redesign from the first one, and it is more heavy duty. It also slows down the gate operation at the beginning and end of the cycle to reduce wear.

If you haven't already, it might be worth looking at the new ones to see if it's still the same product that you have. The range for the remote is about the same, though.
Yes they are improved and easy to fix.

I have two and one I've replaced parts a few times due to wear and lightning.

What I usually do is buy another one and use parts from it and since it's already installed it is quick. That leaves me with more parts for future repairs.

They are basic. There's a board and an arm and am antenna. The arm is a motor screw. It has a wheel that has a spin counter using ir sensors.

The board is pretty simple but well built. Has fused protection and easy to add options. Since they are sold at home depot you can repair on weekends and nights.

There are probably better systems out there but hard to beat for the price. I have quite a few parts saved up for mine. Probably enough to rebuild a complete opener.

Right now mighty mule has 10 percent off everything. Just got an email so that helps.

The car built in remotes and other universals will work with them also.

Our Apollo has a 20 watt solar panel and gets a lot of shade - only an hour or two a day of full sun. We use regular group 34 auto battery. Has worked terrific. Roughly 4 cycles per day avg. I guess. About 2500-3000 cycles over 26 months.

For those of you with the Apollo, where did you get it?

Mine came from "Gate Depot".

We had a local fence company guy do it. He does gates and fences.

I'm 3rding the Patriot from USA Automatic.

Mines been running strong for 10yrs, (1 battery replaced) and being up on a hill mine works from inside the house 1400' away......plenty of range (line of sight)

Running their solar panel too.

We have Mighty Mule about 10 years four cycles a day in average. I changed the motor last year. The motor is standard and there are many on the market from $5 to $200 or so. Our runs from 120 AC and battery. We are on third battery. It wouldn't operate reliably at temperatures below -10F. First I thought it was mechanical issue but found that it was battery having low voltage when frozen. Therefore I insulated the battery box with 1" Styrofoam and now it operates at any temperature common in our area because the transformer generates enough heat to keep the battery warm.

I built my own.
Linear actuators and winch relay from princess auto. Control board, timer boards and remotes from Linear tech. Solar panel controller and battery from Canadian tire.
All simple parts that one can be replaced if needed. It has been 4 years with no issues so far. I did change from solar to power as the trees, lack of daylight and cold in the winter would not let the gates do many cycles close together.
I added a key switch and a power outlet 3 years ago.
