Ford 8N and now 3016
So I made my introduction in the new members area and now for the questions. After searching the post I've gotten some good info. But still need some input on size and 4w vs 2w. I'm looking at 3016, 3616, 4010 2w and 4025 2w. The low end MSRP at 13,000 something and high end of 17,000 something. The area is 5-8 acres tall grass and the rest is hilly rocky wooded area. So questions are
1. Will the 3016 handle tall thick grass?
2. In the woods, solid but crowded with trees and under growth, 30 degrees and flat, will the 4w be better than the 2w?
3. Which turning radius is better 4 vs 2?

The bulk of the work will be cutting tall grass, I've got an old 5' heavy duty bushhog and a newer 5' finishing mower for cutting grass but sometimes I take the bushhog and attack the under growth, saplings, 1'' to 2''. Later on I'm going to be adding a FEL and backhoe for stumps and fallen tree removal. Thanks for your time.

P.S. Remember, I'm coming from an 8N, so all this is new to me.
Jeff.

If u r considering the 3016, but r concerned about tight spaces in woods, it may be at least worth a look at the Max28XL specs.

The 8n ford tractor new had 23.24 hp at the pto. The mahindra 3016 gear has 23 hp at pto and hst 21.1 at pto. Todays tractor are a whole different animal from the old 8n. 8ns were gasoline todays tractors are diesel, more torque. The 3016 would easily operate a 5' mower. The 4025 is a big tractor and would not be as maneuverable, but do you really need a 4x4 in that part of the country? The 3016 is comperable in size as the 8n. Good luck in your decision. Jim

MadMax, the 28 I have looked at but not that closely. I believe it has the same horse power as the 3016 bit I could be wrong. I'll study it more though.

Jim, the 4x4 is what I'm wondering about also. With steep inclines, rough terrain and wanting to pull stumps, move downed tree's I thought it might be better suited. Plus in the Mahindra line of small tractors they are all 4x4. The larger 40 series in 2 wheel drive are considered due to lower cost and that nagging question of 4 or 2.

Thanks for the replys. Looking forward to more.

I forgot to mention, the Mahindra dealer is less than 2 miles from my house. Got another one about 30 miles away. According to Google anyway.

I think u r right. However, I think the PTO HP is higher on the max28, than the 3016. I'm not positive, but I think so... even though you would expect the opposite.

Great choice in the 3016. Better close the deal if dealer has one in stock, I have been waiting for a couple of months for more 3016's.

You will be happy with the 3016 and you will be VERY happy to have the 4x4 mode available. ;)
