Buying Advice Looking for first tractor (sub-compact) and flail mower

Don't know why, but NC has two different Fairviews -- one outside Asheville (mine) and one outside Charlotte (yours).

Well, the Mrs. and I were just in Asheville for a couple of days last week. Mt. Mitchell has a wonderful view and nice hiking trails. That said, the mountain's parting gift to us was a bad case of sinuses. I'm in Davidson County, south of Winston-Salem if you ever need.

To the topic. First, I have a BX25 which is the entry level Kubota which I've supplemented with lots of implements. Hindsight tells me several things. First, I should have bought the B series. Second, I've used the small tractor for more things than I ever imagined. That FEL is used all the time for all kinds of things.

I bought my tractor knowing I would use it to mow 90% of the time. I also knew I had a couple of fields I'd brush hog periodically. And the truth is, after I tamed the fields with the brush hog, I can now deck mow those same fields (using the belly mower / mid mount mower).

As for the size / horsepower, get at least one size larger than you think you need.

Selecting a dealer: Absolutely, positively go with the dealer you think will work with you and help you the most. This being your first tractor, you're going to lean on your dealer for support more in the beginning.

Anyway, that's my thoughts.

Congrats on your new machine. Read up on how to keep oil from seeping out of your flail and buy/order another set of Gates belts now. You will likely burn up a set before you figure out what you can and can't do with your mower (the belts are the weak link in the power line). Weight your tires and make sure you have some serious weight on the back before doing any heavy lifting with the bucket. The loader is more powerful than the tractor is heavy and being a new user you will make mistakes, stack the odds in your favor. Now spend a few more bucks on a set of pallet forks. Everything attachments makes a nice lightweight set. Hear me now and thank me later! If you ever decide you want a mmm, I'll make you a deal on mine practically unused.

Ended up getting the B2650. Should be delivered on Tuesday. Also ordered the Caroni 1500 flail from Agri Supply. They're shipping that on Tuesday since I will need the tractor to bring it down from the street. Thanks to all who helped me -- sure ended up with a different tractor than I originally thought. Now I have to learn to maintain it -- and I know where to go if I have questions. Much appreciated!

Congratulations on your new tractor! While my B2650 is probably undersized for my property it gets everything done just fine and is very smooth and comfortable.
