Hello All,

I am looking for a pair of flat cutter blades approx 7/16" thick x 3" wide x
25 1/2" long. The mounting hole is 1 1/2" Dia and hole center is 2 3/8" from end.

These are for an old 5' rotary cutter made by Poplarville Mfg. All the local shops are not familiar with these and only have blades with an offset.

Does anyone know where I can order these and the matching bolt kits. I'm assuming this flat blade is the proper blade for this cutter?

The deck and gearbox are heavy duty and in good shape, so I'd like to get this cutter back in operation.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
C

Have you tried a local Tractor or Agri supply store? You may have to run the offset blades if they will fit. They will cut a little lower but you can raise the 3pt and adjust the rear wheel if need be. Good luck.

Thanks HeavyDuty,

All of the Ag parts stores were scratching their heads when they saw this flat blade. I did have one who thought he could order something similar for about $100 but wasnt sure how close a match it was.

I was wondering if I could use an offset blade... This mower has a full round disk that the blades mount. This disk also had two other holes with bolts that act as a stop, so that the blades cannot fully rotate 360 deg.

If I use the offset blade, it would allow the blade to rotate 360 deg--not sure if that is a problem or if that is how other brands are set up.

Thanks again,
C

My old Howse has the larger disc (stump jumper) and has offset blades that can rotate 360 degrees, no problems with it. I think the majority of cutters will rotate the 360.

You need the blades to be able to rotate 360 because if you hit something heavy, solid the blade will pivot instead of bending or breaking. One thing I like about flat blades is that you can term them over if they have a cutting edge on both sides. It's like getting 2 blades for the price of one. But in your case a cheap offset is better than ordering a $100 flat.

Thanks everyone,

I was going to try a set of offset blades, but after measuring the height of the blade carrier and the side height to the ground, it looks like its going to require the flat blades.
The only way an offset blade would work would be if it had an offset of less than 1". I havent been able to find any yet that have a small offset with a 25-26" length.

I've checked with some of the places mentioned and havent found a flat blade in a length this long either.

If anyone knows of another model of rotary cutter that uses flat blades, maybe I can check with one of their parts reps.

Thanks again,
C

If you don't find the blades, check with a spring shop that works on heavy springs. Our local spring shop hammers out blades and even makes them from scratch.

You might find a flat blade on alamo.com. I've used them before when I was in a pinch. If you find a flat that is close, say 18-20", that may be as close as your gonna get.
