Hello,

I'm building a hiller and planning to use six odsmondson 18" notched discs because they are the only US-made discs I could find. They have a 1-1/8" square axle.

I'm trying to locate information on how to set up the axle and bearing assemblies. For example, I'm not seeing taper bearings available, though it seems logical to use taper bearings.

Does anyone have a good source to get educated on the design of disc assemblies?

Thank you

Look at agri supply, they should have all the axles, hangers, bearing holders , bearings , and spools.

Disc bearings are usually heavy duty ball bearings with triple seals against the dirt. They are good only for this type application because the triple lip seals provide so much rolling resistance and create heat so are suitable only for low rotational speed applications. The triple seals are very good for the dirt. Our heaviest disk has relube flanges with a grease groove and hole in the outer race for both eluding the bearings and purging any first and moisture that might have made it past the seals.
