I have a MF 265 with one remote but have not used it yet. I have added a ROP need to remove the existing remote IMG_1706.JPGvalve and outlet quick connects. I plan to replace the single remote with 3 remote valves and associated quick connects.

This pic shows what is the hydraulic connection with shutoff to the existing remote. IMG_1704.JPGIMG_1706.JPG.

The valve turns 180 to hard stops in either direction.
Convention tells me full clockwise shuts off the flow to and from the existing remote.

Can someone confirm this?

Do you have any outlet on the cover where the PTO lever?

Do you have any outlet on the cover where the PTO lever?

On the side cover, left hand side near the PTO lever, there are two lines that come out and are only connected to each other. The tubing comes out and goes back in the same sideplate.

Well, that is the aux pump and this is the pump you want to use, the other you have in picture is quite problematic to use for anything but 3pt.

Sorry for my ignorance but our local MF dealer has closed and the nearest one is well over 100 miles away. Not many MF machines on our area either. I recently aquired this machine and the seller knew little about the hydraulic system.

Then what does the valve located on the top plate actually do?
What does quite problematic mean?

It’s a MF 265, not a 254. My fat fingers.

Because of the way the pump is controlled, you don't have a normal valve but you control the pump direct by the 3pt lever, so if you use the 3pt pump and want to use the 3pt whit a external valve you must also use a valve to controll the 3pt lift and you loose all position controll and draft control, not a very nice solution.

The other pump is a very normal hydraulic pump, all you need is to plug hoses to it and connect your valve, one is pressure and the other is return.

The reason MF is like this must be a tribute to Harry Ferguson as the first Ferguson tractor had this design.

Thanks for your help. I have a copy of the operator manual, shop service manual, and parts manual, but MFs appear to have so many options, it’s not always helpful if you didn’t by the machine originally.

Do all MF 265s have both the Ferguson pump and the auxilliary pump?

As far as I know virtually all MF tractors (larger than the expensive lawnmower sizes) have separate pumps as Agvg described. My MF2660 certainly does. Since you have one remote already, you should be able to add one or two more remotes banked up side by side with the first one. The high pressure feed line typically goes into the first remote and then on through the rest with a return to the sump on the other (outlet) side from the last one. You'll have a separate lever for each remote of course with control cables from the lever operated valve to the remote. All MF hydraulics are open center, so when you use (open the valve for) one of the remotes you also shut off high pressure supply to all the rest. I call them one-track-mind hydraulics but that is by far the most common.

I believe the mid-size and larger MF tractors use 3 pumps: 1 for power steering, one for the 3pt, and one for auxilliary general purposes such as the loader, the remotes, etc. I have zero experience with the 265 myself.
