I will be building a house next year on a 5 acre lot and I’m considering buying a tractor to help with some of the building tasks and yard work after we move in. Some of the building tasks I’m considering using the tractor for is building the driveway, building the septic field, wire and pipe trenching, and other small earthwork and hauling tasks. The only reason I’m even considering using the tractor to build the driveway is its location is very flat with mostly small stumps. I will not be using the tractor to dig the foundation hole! After the house is built we do have several landscaping and gardening projects planned.

If I were to purchase a Jinma or Yanmar what tractor, loader, and backhoe model is recommend for the tasks I’m planning to perform and what other implements would be helpful. I’m considering a box blade, finish mower, rotary tiller, and snow blower. And are the any recommended dealers in the southern Maine and New Hampshire area or will deliver to southern Maine for a reasonable cost? Thanks

You might consider getting a broadcast spreader also. You can use that several times a year in the first few years for seeding, liming, and fertilizing. Other useful implements are: rough cut mower, and an aerator.

Welcome to the group. What type of budget do you have? The only thing that really separates any of the Yanmar models is how fast and how easy you will be able to complete a given job. A YM1100 is much cheaper and will move just as much dirt as a YM3110- but you will spend much more time on the seat. The best way (I think) is to look at your budget and narrow it down from there.

I dont recommend a backhoe on a Yanmar unless it has a heavy duty subframe. I have seen many 2 piece tractors as a result of an aggressive backhoe operator.

I have 6 acres and I use a YM1810 with a Koyker 110 loader. It is perfect for what I am doing.

I would rent a trencher to bury wire and pipe, and rent a real TLB for the septic field. A backhoe is an expensive implement that usually doesn't get much use other than very specialized tasks. I rented a Kubota L35 to dig the foundation for my addition and it only cost me $300 for the day delivered. 6" trencher goes for about $70 a day around here. Buy a tractor and implements that you will have an ongoing use for.
