Looking for recs on for a rotary cutter with a slip clutch. Will be cutting mostly level areas with moderate to have grasses and light weeds, not heavy brush. (unbuilt building lots that need to be maintained for the development). Will be using a MF GC2300 (19ish PTO HP).

I'm think 48" but was also looking at 54", have found some cheaper ones but all seem to have shear pins and I really want a slip clutch to protect my light sub compact tractor.

Any recs would be appreciated.

I use a Land Pride 48" on my BX2660, there are several other good brands too.

Even my 5' LX5 has a slip clutch and still has a shear bolt that lasts about 4-8 hours.

Sp i've been making alot of calls- the dealers are actually recommending shear pin setups as the clutches can freeze and actually be worse than a shear pin system. Having trouble finding anyone who stocks a 48" with a clutch- found a Woods BB48Xc for 1600 or the same delaer has the bush hogg Sq148 for 1200.

A shear pin is simpler and some prefer it over the slip clutch. I would break three or four a day, but I mow some heavy stuff. Use the search function and you will find plenty of reading.

Good luck.

Slip clutches are fine, as long as the proper procedures are followed.
They must be loosened and slipped prior to use in the spring of the year, and possibly once or twice through the season if it's stored outside.

Sheer bolts are idiot proof. I should probably take the clutch off my tiller and replace it with a bolt. I'll do that right after I slip my clutch and back up my hard drive..

I loosen the slip clutch on my KingKutter (rated at 60HP at the gear box) and then store the driveshaft inside.I haven't had any problems in the 8 years I've had it.

I had a Bush Hog Squealer with a shear pin that I bought used. the shear pin hole was wallowed out and it would not hold the shear pin it was designed for. I had to use a shear bolt.
