I don't like to post the same message in two forums, so I'm taking a chance at posting this here instead of the antique tractor forum... as I feel it will get more 'traffic' passing it.

I have a 46 ford 2n and am looking for a set of front and rear steel. ( I know the steel was for the 43 models.. but I'm not looking for oem.. just somehting different.. and that won't go flat. .. I'm REAL tired of booting tires.. those 4x19 tires/tubes aren't as easy as they look.

Front hubs are still the larg 5 bolt pattern oem hub common the the 9n/2n, and rear huds are also the oem large 6 bolt pattern.. etc.

drop me an email if you have/see a set for sale.

thanks

"those 4x19 tires/tubes aren't as easy as they look."

Are you saying you repair those yourself? I have mine done at the local Exxon for $10 each... no problem; however, I've only had 1 front and 1 rear in 3 years. Good luck on finding steel wheels.

I 'did'.. as in past tense.. as in.. never again.

I've always taken the rears to the tire store to do.. but figured I could do a front. Well.. its on.. and holds air.. and I'll never do it again /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Soundguy, why don't you have the front tires filled with foam. It's a little expensive, but NO MORE FLATS! I finally did that on my Jubilee when I bought a new set of tires. It was $130 per front wheel (kept air in rear wheels), but the Jubilee has much larger front tires than the 2N as you know. ...just a thought. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I think he's looking for the steel wheels AND tires that they sold during 1942-1943, during the wartime rubber shortages--

Have you driven a tractor on steel? If so, you are going into this with your eyes open.

I once owned a 1929 McCormack 22-36--a big tractor, that was on steel. (It was wife's granddad's first tractor.) To be able to haul it, I cut the lugs off, and eventually bolted the tread from a rear tractor tire on the rears and from a truck tire on the front. I drove that tractor on asphalt and the ride was terrible! There is almost no shock effect in rubber tread bolted to steel, and would be ZERO if you had pure steel.

I suppose if you never got on hardpack, you could tolerate the ride, but if you have any hard surfaces to drive over, that ride is going to be ROUGH if you have smooth steel rims and really rough if you have lugs on the back.

Best wishes,
Ron

Yep.. I'm loking for steel on steel.. rims.

And yeah.. I know they will shake your fillings out.
I'm just getting them for aesthetic purposes... ( and the fact that my wife can't tell the difference between my 8n and 2n.. and doesn't think I should have two of the same tractor.. so wants me to sell one.... therefore if I add steel to the 2n.. it will be 'different'.

Hah, Soundguy, that's good! Just don't have her drive that one or she'll really make you sell it!
