Hello TBN,
I am a new member to this community and hope to find some good references, suggestions, and possibly some moral support with a few upcoming projects.
I recently bought a project tractor, a 1986 Ford 1910 with 1910 hrs on the Hobbs meter. It is a two wheel drive (no fel) and had what I though was a small problem (broken rings on one cylinder). I picked it up with a bush hog and a 5' box blade for $2,500. I thought I could just drop the oil pan, pull the piston out, slap a new set of rings on her, and away I go. Well as I'm telling you all of this, I'm sure there are plenty of experienced tractor gurus reading this, and they are probably saying; "Oh, but there is no way it would ever be so easy!". Well of course you are much wiser than me. Shortly after dropping the oil pan, I discovered the real reason for the troubles. Not only were the rings in the #3 cylinder disintegrated, but so was the main bearing and of course the crank was destroyed. So I did a complete rebuild on the engine, and I now have approximately $5000 in this tractor with a 0 time engine.
My second dilemma came when I tried to rejoin the two halves of the tractor. Again you are all probably well ahead of me, but I cannot find a clutch alignment tool for this tractor. I had to put it back together without the clutch until I could get back home to work on it. Did I forget to mention that I live in the Middle East, and my tractor is in South Carolina? Well at any rate, I will be coming home in January (specifically to finish up with my tractor), and I'm hoping to get some help from this forum.
Thanks in advance to any of you that send advice my way in the not so distant future.
Best regards,
