Kubota L4400 4wd w/LA 703 FEL
I have been looking for a larger tractor to replace or go with my Kubota L4400 4wd. The L4400 is 45 hp and is a good machine but it is very light weight. I need something heavier and with substantially more loader capacity. I'm looking for a used pre-emissions tractor with no computer. I'm looking in the 60-70 hp range. My ideal machine is a Kubota M6040 or M7040. Needs to be 4wd. But these are hard to find and as everyone knows these pre-emissions tractors are EXPENSIVE right now. I looked at a M7040 with 1800 hours on it. Beat up. Bent exhaust pipe. One of the front wheels and tires was new which makes me wonder what happened to it. Otherwise it was solid. Drove and functioned well. No obvious leaks etc. $28,500! And searching the web that's consistent with what else is out there. I've made a casual offer of $22,000 but haven't heard back. Can't imagine he'll get anywhere close. But it has been sitting there a while.

So, I need to broaden my horizons. That would primarily mean John Deere or other popular brand with good local dealer support. But I don't know anything about brands other than Kubota. I would prefer a mechanical shuttle shift. Would consider hydraulic shuttle shift. No hydro. What would the JD equivalent of a Kubota M6040 or M7040 be? Any thoughts or recommendations appreciated.

What you are looking for is what 10s of thousand others are looking for too. The used tractor market for the 50-70Hp is at an all time high demand and prices are not in your favor either.

Due to the Right-2-Work bills coming to votes by the summer, many have turned to the very machine requirements you are now looking for.

Keep the Kubota L4400. Don't replace it. Then when you are finally blessed with what your heart desires, a miracle can happen. :)

Perhaps consider a little older even. The 6040 and the 7040 are directly before the computer and emission stuff. Go back a step further and look as well. M5400,5700,6800,8200

JD would be anything in the 5000 series would compare to the smaller M tractors.

similar year to the 6040 and 7040 would be like the 5065e or 5075e.

The 5000 series has ran for 3 decades now. So just have to research them out to see just what you want. JD also has a letter following the model. Could be a D, E, G, M, R They all mean something different. Really not up on deeres. I just know that you want the 5000 series cause their 4000 series tractors are basically like the MX kubota line

This is my 2009 Kubota M6040. It's in pristine condition and has only 290 hours. I have no intention of selling. Just a while back - email from Kubota dealer. Offered $32,500 - as is. That's almost exactly what I paid thirteen years ago. Wonder what THEY were going to sell it for.

No - I am not trying to irritate anybody. Just an example of what is happening locally.

Nothing I could find in Florida when I was looking, but the best place to check would be Futchs Tractor Depot in Hastings Fl.

I started looking seriously for a used tractor over the summer. I wanted a cabbed 4x4 tractor big enough to handle round bales, and a batwing mower. I was looking at 80 to 90 hp tractors that all had issues, with around 2,000 hours. I'm financing and they where all in the $850 a month range. More then I wanted to pay every month, but doable. What really bothered me was that I knew I would be wrenching on them, and dealing with issues from the previous owners that could takes days to figure out, or longer. Since I wanted AC, that also became a concern. A lot of them did not blow cold air!!! Of all the brands I looked at, Kubota was the most expensive, but also the nicest compared to the others.

I started several links on here with the tractors that caught my eye and eventually started to rethink what I wanted. My biggest issue with new was the unknown time bomb of Tier4 emissions. If that didn't exist, I would prefer to buy new.

Somebody on here suggested looking at Massey Ferguson. Their 4707 tractor is 70 hp and it does not use DEF, and it does not Regenerate. It is longer and heavier then all of it's competition. It comes standard with more features then any other brand that I know of in that HP range. Their zero percent financing brought the monthly payment down to $660 for a brand new, 4x4 cabbed tractor, 12 speed transmission, with a loader.

I signed the paper in November and I'm waiting for it now.

I have never been impressed with Kubota loaders lift capacity.

I tend to agree, but the more I read these forums and listen to people, I think Kubota may be one of the few who put a loader on that is rightly sized for the tractor and weight. The problem I see is that everyone just looks at specs and goes, ooh, that lifts more so it is better. The problem is they have a 3000# lift capacity on a 5000lb tractor and then a front axle breaks (or worse the tractor splits in half :)) and it's the tractors fault, not theirs for doing something they probably shouldn't have.

I guess what I am saying is most should go up a size in tractor, but of course they can't afford to or just don't want to. There will always be fringe cases, but if you are looking at max loader capacity and expecting to always need it, one should be buying a bigger tractor.

How can a new tractor in that hp range be sold without emissions? I don’t think that’s legal. Please explain what the situation is, because your description doesn’t make sense to me.
