Looking into a B7200

I have about 3 acres of lawn to take care of, and I have been looking for something to make the job go a little quicker. I have been using a Craftsman 22 HP with a 46" deck. It does a good job, but on the hillsides I have to sit out on the edge of the seat to keep traction (even with wheel weights). The other day I stopped and looked at a Kubota B7200 I had been eying up on my way to and from work. It is 2wd with turf tires and a manual gear box. Tires may be the original ones as the fronts are starting to crack on the sidewalls. It has a 60" woods belly mower and seems to be in real good shape for its age. We didn't start it up or anything, just talked things over. He is asking $4700. I was wondering what you thought before I spend this much on a new lawnmower. I might also use it for snow removal, or pulling a small hay wagon if my uncle needs some help on the farm.

My second tractor was a B 7200 4X4,hst,loader and box blade that I paid $2000 for.I used it mostly for road maintenance and weed abatement and it was a good tractor.I moved up to a B 7800 mostly because of the power steering as I was doing quite a bit of loader work and arthritis became an issue with the manual steering.I sold the tractor to a neighbor for $1500.
I think the tractor you're looking at is priced a lot higher than I would pay.

A B7200 would make a good mowing machine specially with 60'' belly mower, personally with the hills, I would be lookin for 4wd and a hydro transmission.

$4700 is way way too high of a price. I just sold my 2wd Mitsubishi MT372, turfs and with snowblower for 2k at auction, was glad to get that much for it.

What would be a reasonable price for this tractor? I think he said it was an 86.

A fair price is whatever 2 people agree on but I wouldn't go any where near that price for 2 wheel drive gear tractor.The owner is probably overly fond of that rig and would be insulted at a reasonable offer which in my opinion wouldn't be even half what he's asking. More like $1200 if it's real nice.

While it may be high... I don't think it's grossly overpriced. Check similar tractors on tractorhouse.com to get an idea on pricing.

You will never find a 4wd/HST/loader tractor for anything even close to $1500 unless you are buying it from Jim Nelson apparently.

I don't think I could afford the shipping to buy from Jim.

I looked a tractorhouse and they only have 1 2wd for sale for $4000. Seems like they were not too popular. I'm seeing a couple 7100's going for about $3500. The place I am looking at is a hot rod shop that opened up in town. He sells kits for 30's Fords and now lawn mowers for some reason. He has a newer Kubota with a factory deck and 4WD, but I think he was asking a little over $5000 for it.

Thank you for your incite. I did not end up getting the tractor. I took a friend with me and we decided it was not worth what he was asking. He did come down to $4300, but the deck was rough and the tires were starting to dry rot. We figured it might be worth $2k but not more then that. I asked where he got it and he couldn't tell me anything about it.

Thanks again. I guess I will keep looking.

Well it probably worked out for the best. Just keep your eyes open and something that fits the bill will come along. If you run across one of those 'too good to pass up' deals.... jump on it or somebody else will. Good luck.
