Looking to buy a tractor?

Trying to figure out what tractor to buy is like pulling teeth! I’m looking for something in the compact size to do small jobs and not tear up the yard. I have Kubota svl75-2 I use for heavy lifting and shredding. I’m caught between buying a small 1025r size tractor or something like a Branson/tym 2515. Mainly want it for tilling and landscape rake. The problem is I may end up getting rid of the skid steer and that’s making the decision a little harder because I would buy something bigger then if I still had it. The compact or sub compact I’d use now for cleaning/maintaining newly made trails and food plots/garden making. Any advice/helps appreciated

Give yourself time to better settle on your usage needs perhaps.

You will be disappointed with the lift capacity of any compact tractor compared to the skid steer, regardless of size. That said, it’s hard to tell what you will really be using the machine for. Are you making trails with the SVL? Food plots, what size how many. I am happy with my 2320 (similar size to 2025r) for some smaller plots less than an acre. If I was doing anything more, then I would want a bigger machine.

Also, what dealers are near you? Happy with the Kubota dealer?

I see disappointment in your future. My tractor basically sits in the shed after I got my skid steer. They make hydraulic driven skid steer tillers that might be a better option for you. Maybe try renting or demoing a tractor before you buy to make sure you’ll be satisfied.

How big of an area would you till? How much would you use the loader? The subcompacts are really only good for a couple of acres from my experience, and tilling or mowing more than a two-acre property regularly just takes too much time. Also, I would keep the skid steer if you ended up going with a subcompact because a subcompact wouldn't even attempt to lift something that a skid steer would lift with ease. There are hydraulic tillers that go on a skid steer, and many other attachments. If you do end up getting rid of the skid loader, I would definitely want at least a 40-horsepower and relatively heavy tractor that could lift heavy pallets. I had a 1025r for a couple of years, and almost always used my heavier Kubota for work other than mowing.

Consider keeping the skid steer and adding a tractor. The 2 together make a great combo

At today’s prices, why buy a new sub compact when you are only doing some tilling and raking. Buy something used and keep the skid steer.

Maybe a ~4000 lb tractor with turf tires? Lifts pretty heavy things, (I picked up the front end of a car this weekend to put some blocking under it), and can run some good size implements.
I like mine anyways, but I don't mind marking up the lawn if needed with my Ag tires. I can't say I've wanted a skid steer too often, and have never bothered to rent one, but doing stuff like spreading gravel inside a 30x60' shed would've been faster with a skid steer, but I got it done a bit slower without taking down the shed with my tractor and some hand raking...
For things like commercial landscaping use, a SS is better overall, but for a homeowner with some land, the one tool that does most things OK is a good size tractor IMO.
