Can anyone tell me the difference between a YM2610D, a YM3110D, FX265D, and a FX28D? They all have loaders, all are reconditioned and range from 31 to 37HP. Im newbe and cant seem to find much info on these models.
Thanks for anyone that can help

The first 2 numbers are the approximate PTO hp. The 10 means Power Shift. The F's are newer tractors, the 265 being the newest. The X's mean Power Shift. Most people on this forum will recommend staying with the older Yanmars but I have had good results with the F's. Be very wary of the reconditioned tractors. These tractors usually only have about a thousand hours on them anyway. Far from being wore out. It makes you wonder why they needed reconditioning so soon.

HTP,
There are some really good dealers here.. I would recomend filling out your profile so they have an idea where you are located and if they might be able to help you.. They also have some very good websites too that will help answer your questions..

The person you are considering buying from may seem credible to to you, but it would be the reconditioned tractor that would worry me. Why would a 500-1000 hour tractor need rebuilt/reconditioned? The shiny no hour tractors might look good to some people but I'd rather stay with an original 1000 tractor that works well.

Let's see...depending on the point you're trying to make some people post that reconditioned merely means the tractor has been run through a paint shop in Vietnam and, still dripping, shipped on to the U.S. The inference here is that only cosmetic reconditioning is done in order to sell them to us gullible westerners and that mechanical problems are ignored in order to get them out the door. I get the impression that people who post on the cosmetic theme bought their tractors from a U.S. dealer who is backing them to to the hilt.

The other group posting about reconditioned tractors wonders why a tractor with 1,000 hours needs a mechanical as well as cosmetic reconditioning - implying these tractors are worn out and to be avoided.

Apparently the prudent choice is to buy a still-running tractor that has been lifted directly out of a Japanese quagmire and shipped as-is to the suspicious yanks.

IMHO the prudent choice is to buy from an reputable dealer who checks the machines out, fixes any problems and offers a reasonable warranty. There are several who post in this forum.

I think that your impressions are clouded, and, I don't think anyone is trying to "infer" anything here.

This is the way it is, if you buy a reconditioned model, from some chop-shop overseas, you do not know what was done to the machine, what problems were perhaps covered up, what short cuts were taken to put it back together, what assorted parts were used, etc. But, what you usually do get is a good looking tractor that does have a nice shine and polish.

As far as reconditioning, that's BS. If it were truely reconditioned in a, as they say, "factory" you would be able to get a list of parts and work performed in the "re-conditioning process". They'd track that stuff by serial num and offer some kinda of support. But, they don't. They rebuild these tractors in open air shelters with dirt floors (from pics that I've seen, never been there, but can't imagine it's much better). You can see what one of these factories looks like, look here:

You think OSHA is involved there? How about ISO standardization? They did say it's a factory, then why not.

Hey, and btw, I own a so called re-conditioned tractor so I am seeing first hand where the paint and polish starts to wear a bit thin... There's no deal to be had by buying one of these reconditioned/remanufactored tractors....

I don't mean to hi-jack the thread, just don't be fooled by the paint... Happy tractoring, either way... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I think what should be at issue for the VN rebuilds is not the cosmetic things but what was the condition of the tractor initially and what was used for parts that were replaced.

Have heard the machine that go to VN are in such poor condition they are not marketable anywhere else. As for parts, anything that fits may be the approach. I know there are post on this forum saying they've had experience with finding components that aren't for the same model as they are attached to, and finding shims made from beer cans.

On the whole, one would be better off buying from a dealer that only handles the better qlty units and have gone over them and made repairs, new fluids and such as needed and will stand by what they sell.

Some guys recomend being a mechanic to own a grey... Everything I have seen and heard tells me that this may be true with a VN reconditioned unit, but not with a reputable dealer...

I have had some issues with mine, though not reall bad for a 30yr old tractor(in my mind).. My dealer treated me ok, and the place he got it from has a good reputation, but I would buy from one of the guys that frequent here next time.... I dont think any of us can say it any more plain, just buy from someone you trust... These guys here are golden when it comes to service and although I havent seen their product personally, I can tell buy seeing their posts on the subject and websites that they are well worth what little more $$ it may cost to buy from them....
