Looking for advise on buying my first disk mower, been using bush hog with sides cut out for a long time...
found a deere 260 that leaks oil out cutter seals for 1800.00 and a kuhn 8.5' that is ready to go for 2000.00
Are these decent mowers? I'm sure they are 1980's or early 90s' so they are OLD!
Ill be using a 55HP kioti DK55 4x4

Very little difference in older model JD & Kuhn's except the color of the paint as Kuhn built cutter for JD . Parts will interchange. I'd buy the cutter that is field ready if amount of wear(use) is similar.

Have you considered a drum mower. You can get a wider cut with the same HP tractor, and they are generally cheaper. The new Kuhn and also Kubota disk mowers appear to be built a little heavier than other models. One question is what brand of dealers you have near you to get support and parts - also check out parts prices. Hope this helps

Cant find any disk mowers around at all, I al worried my 5500 lb tractor will not handle a 8' disk mower.

If you're worried about your tractor not handling the cutter weight you could put cutter on a caddy. Caddy is much easier to attach to tractor than just the cutter and IMHO caddy follows contour of ground better

Krone makes a good product IF you have dealer support, their dealer presence in some states is not that great but I do see that there is at least 4 of them in IN vs the nearly 60 in TX. Based on the size of the states TX has approx twice as many dealers per/sq mile.

+1 on the Drum Mower. Try SFI in Texas. Lately I've been buying my blades from Webbs Sickle Service. They have some German made blades that last longer.
