I seem to have a lot of play in the steering box (power steering)
Is there a way to adjust the gear in the steering box

Usually you can adjust it some. Can you post some pictures of your steering box?

So what is in the center of this plate I circled? I am thinking there should be a jam nut on a screw with a slot in the end to adjust the sector shaft gear mesh.

I thought so too but nothing like that to be seen. Is there anything under the steering box its the only place I could not see.

There is no external adjustment screw on this box. There is nothing under it either. If you have play internally, there isn't much you can do from the outside. I wouldn't suggest tearing too deeply into it without the appropriate manual. (of course your choice there)

This is what it looks like inside.
