Loss of a pet

I had to put down my favorite pet cat this afternoon. I've had her for over 12 years, and thru a few moves/cities, and a couple marriages and a divorce.

She was a good basic cat... always happy.. just wanted food and shelter.

She has been sick for a few weeks and didn't bounce back from some surgery.

I wasn't quite ready for her to go just yet... but she was suffering.. so..... I made the hard choice today after the vet called this afternoon and said there was no more options...

All the pet owners out there will know what I'm talking about. I know it was just an animal... but they really grow on you...

Anyway... I just wanted to dedicate my 10,000 th post here at TBN to my old cat.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Its tough. No, when they are always with and around you and your family, they are not "just an animal", nor, "pets", but, they are part of the family. When an animal that is a member of the family is lost, one that you are around, interact with and see on a daily basis, it hurts when they are no longer around. No where near losing a relative or a friend, but, something is missing that was once there.

Once again, sorry for your loss. Nice dedication.

I know exactly what you mean... we've gone through that before, and we're not looking forward to having to do it again someday. Sorry for your loss.

In his 87 years, I only ever saw my dad cry one time. When his ol' pal Max died. (Schnauzer) We get so attached to pets. For good reasons though. They love us unconditionally, look forward to seeing us, they never have a bad day. And they always seem to find a way to brighten our day, no matter how bad things are.

It's tough to gauge who needs who the most with a pet. They need us to feed and care for them. But they sure fill a few basic needs of ours.

It's tough parting company with a friend.

As I read your post my 15 year old "boy" Clark sets on my lap purring away. For the past two years he has waged a battle with cancer and thanks to a great vet he has had some extra time with us and a good quality of life. I know at some point I will need to make the same choice you did and I am not looking forward to it. My condolonces to you on the loss of your friend.

SoundGuy sorry for your loss.

We have always had a dog or two through the years and I can remember more than a few times laying a good pet to rest. It's no fun even when you know it's inevitable yet we still have dogs.

Glad we have the ability to forget the pain sooner or later.

Very sorry to hear of your loss ! I had to put down my dog Fritz, a weimeraner, many years ago. The dog was 13 1/2 but it hurt just the same. I dont shed a tear often, but I did that day. Try and dwell on the many good memories of times you shared with your pet to get through the tough times !
