Hey all you shadetrees, I have a little Ford 1220 HST that will not hold its rpms more than a few minutes. Once it gets hot, there is a significant loss of power.

What does this mean? My grandpa-like retired Ford mechanic says its the fuel filter, so I make sure I have clean air and fuel filters at all times. It doesn't matter what I do.

Who knows the steps of diagnosis to find out the problem??

Thanks, Bob Trammmell Little Rock

Im new to desiel engines, but if it were gas you got a bad head gasket or intake, crank seals...sounds major to me. sorry to be the bearer of maybe some bad news.

If this is something that just started happening recently, smell your fuel. I would not be suprized that it smells like gasoline. If this is the case, drain your fuel tank, change the fuel filter, and bleed the fuel system, even at the injectors. You won't be able to get every little drop but you'll get most of it. Once you get it running it should not take long for it to clear up. As far as any engine damage, unless you ran it for a long time (hours) everything should be OK.
