Was running the finish mower today. Cut some hills and paths for about an hour and let her sit to cool down. About an hour later I started on the yard and noticed something didn't feel right, esp when trying to reverse. Eventually it got to the point where I could not go forward or back, right front wheel showing no power at all. Wheel almost seems locked up. Can't find any leaks. Going to try again once it cools down but what should I be looking for? Both the front wheel motors have been rebuilt by Tazewell in the last 2 years.

Well, of course the thread should have read "front"...not from.

In any case, just went out and after rocking forward and back the wheel did break loose for about 5' and then locked up again. Was able to lift the front end and using the other 3 wheels got it to a place that I can work on it....just not sure where to begin.

just a shot but is the emergency brake pin stuck in the wheel sprocket?........Jack

Jack, that makes perfect sense. The wheel does move just a little forward and back. I'll be checking it out after my morning coffee.

Well, problem identified. Wasn't the brake, but when I pulled the tire off I noticed that the wheel motor was not snug against the mounting bracket and could see that at least 1 of the 4 bolts was loose. The head broke off from one of the bolts and got jammed in between the frame and the spider wheel. So I now have a bolt broken off inside the wheel motor. Gouged out the back of the spider wheel a bit but should not affect anything. Will be a relatively cheap fix. Going to remount all the wheel motors with Loc Tite Blue.

Good catch.

That was going to be my next guess. Happen just like that when mine got lose enough to bind. Be sure to pull the wheels off from time to time and check those bolts.

Edited your thread title.

Glad you identified the problem.

Yep, it's all good now. Had to buy a small set of easy outs and had to order the bolts from PT. They have a tapered shoulder and could not find them locally. Hope the bolts arrive today, driveway got washed out again from a downpour and the grass is growing right before my eyes!
