I,ve only had to once when I had to replace the fuel line because it ran the fuel out.
I filled the filter bowl , Loosened the incoming line to the pump first till there was fuel coming out & no air. Then the outgoing line. Next the injectors on the moter itself starting with the closest one to the pump . Each time cranking the engine a few times . As soon as the last one was bled it fired right up.
I dont know if this is the correct way or if theres an easier way , But it worked for Me . on Some deisels theres a plug on the pump that can be used to bleed it But I,ve allways did it this way on My big trucks. Best of luck.

BTW , I would suggest changing the fuel element as well. Because its probablly full of any sediment that was in the bottom of the tank.
