I think that is the right term for what connects the pumps to the engine. I have about 1100 hours on my PT422 and have not had any problems with these except the hex screw loosens up and I don't usually retighten them. Does anyone have an idea of the expected life of these? Should we use Locktite on the hex screws?

Loctite wont hurt

Genuine Lovejoys can and generally do last a LONG time.

Yes, do tighten the screws.

Well aligned Lovejoys can last a long time. Slight misalignments can reduce the lifetime to a tens of hours.

All the best,

Peter

My brand new love joy is shot after about 15 minutes of use on a log splitter. Mounting bracket from pump to motor must not be aligned properly since its homemade. The rubber got all chewed up

15 minutes is a pretty good indication of not being aligned well...

There are a bunch of instructions and videos at the LoveJoy that include what the tolerable misalignments are for each type of connector.

It can be a bit fiddly, but when you get it right, it is done for a long time.

Don't forget to check the play on the two shafts before you install the coupler. Bad bearings or warped shafts will also eat Lovejoy connectors up.

All the best,

Peter
