Does anyone know what would cause a low hour motor (330hrs) to have stuck rings, and leaky pitted valves? The tractor was running fine, and then it just wouldn't start. The dealer is telling me that it's due to fuel contamination, but it seems like it would run bad when that happens.

I am no expert in diesels, however, contaminated fuel usually causes problems with the injectors/injector pump.

I would think stuck rings would be caused by wither the wrong oil or contaminated oil.

You don't say which valve (intake or exhaust) but a pitted exhaust valve can be caused by over heating, or way rich mixture in a gas engine... You cant have too rich in diesels so not sure there...

Water hitting valves can cause rusting which would look like pitting... Is your exhaust pipe go strait up? Maybe rain leaking into cylinder.
