Well I went to plow the drive this am and only 5-10 psi oil pressure when is has run 40-45 too high for 2 years, it was 5 deg F very cold but since I stretched the spring on the relief valve 2 years ago I haven't had this problem if anything too much pressure, I ran the tractor last week and had great pressure.Never had this before even in cold weather?

Just looking for where to start it, was too cold this am to do any thing, will running it on low pressure hurt the engine, it's a newer psi gauge, could something be wrong with the gauge, the needle moves, partially frozen?

Thanks Very Much for your ideas and input.

Jim

Since the gauge is fairly new, and it's probably the easiest thing to check, I'd start there first. Low oil pressure is not always as bad as it may seem, but I'd try to find out what caused yours to drop since it dropped so much.

as cheap as oil pressure gauges are.. I'd repalce it and check oil level. if level is low.. your reading will be low due to foaming.

i'd also check that oil relief spring / plunger as jerry sugested.

what oil are you using?

if everything check out.. i'd be watching for symptoms.

any strange noises since it did this ( bearing squeal from a spun main or rod.. etc.. )
