Seem to only have LSD near me to buy (New hampshire). Is it ok to use or not?

You don't by chance mean ULSD do you. There has been a lot of discussion in the Oil, Fuel and Lubricants section on this topic. Your going to need to start using it at some point, in 2010 ULSD is all there is going to be anymore.

Sorry the ULSD; 15 PPM I think is what the pump said. Do I need an additive or something?

I doubt it. Check with your dealer for the definitive answer. The main reason diesel is converting to less sulfur is for emissions. It costs more to refine low or ultra-low sulfur fuel. For road use, it's mandated around here, but farm fuel can be old style high sulfur and it's also tax free so I realize about 50 cents a gallon or more savings using it.

Another coming thing is bio-diesel. One of the big engine manufacturers, Cummins I think, has just approved their engines for B-20, but not everyone has. They understandably want to test their engines for endurance with any significant in fuel formulation.

Also on the horizon, at least for cars, is urea injection -- Blu-tech is what DMC calls the technology. This one is definitely not backwards compatible so it will be a while before it's in the majority of engines, if ever.

You will see Urea Injection in diesel engines in 2010. It is already planned by a couple of OTR truck engine manufacturers to be used to meet the next emissions step.

Not sure what part of the country you are from, but I found the ULSD to gel much quicker in the winter around here. I never had a problem before down to -25 F, but this year even 0 F would gel up, so I use the Power Service additive. It made a difference and no more problems. I also add the recommended amount for summer use for lubrication as indicated on the bottle. I have a small 24 HP and only use minimal amount of fuel, so I buy it at the road pump in 5 gallon increments.

I had quite a few "rants and raves" posted in TBN last winter related to ULSD fuel gelling. DieselPower's posts helped me stabilize my mental status and blood pressure :D. Like Brad I use Power Service (White Bottle) year round. During the warmer months I use it as recommended on the bottle, and I add a "double shot" in winter (still recommended). I did not have any gelling problems once I started using Power Service. Jay
