Ford 3000 diesel, 8-speed
I'm looking at purchasing an LS tractor this week and need input on what to buy. I'm currently old school with a Ford 3000 (no loader).
I have 10 acres with about 6 of it being horse pasture with scattered pine trees, and 2-3 acres behind the house with lots of pines that I have to bush hog and pull a landscape rake around. I'll be using the tractor for cleaning the barn, landscape raking, brush hogging, box blade work and spreading dirt and fertilizer. I'll sometimes push tree branches and trimmings into a burn pile.

I've been looking at the LS XG3140H and XR3140H, both with loaders. (I think these are 2019 models since the new models are being called MT2 and MT3 series....confusing) .
Comparing the two, I see the XR is a heavier frame, more robust tractor. More of what I would consider a typical farm tractor, but also about $3000 more. Considering both are 40HP would I be overworking the XG3140 with the type of "hobby farm" work I would do?

Also, I need input on hydrostatic drive vs gear drive shuttleshift. I can see advantages of hydrostatic when doing loader work or cutting/raking in and around trees. Are the hydrostatics durable? Are they prone to overheating?

This is a major purchase for me and I need to get it right the first time.

Thanks to all for advice and recommendations.

I was looking at XG3140H vs XR3135H (XR3140 is only available with a cab around here). As much as I could tell without being very familiar with either, the rear end on the XR does look a bit beefier, but that's not to say the XG looks weak. I was never concerned about the XG not being up to the task for anything I was going to use it for. I was just looking for where the extra weight was from the spec sheet since they are basically the same size.

I decided on the XR more for the "comfort" upgrades. The lower, larger fuel tank, the extendable 3pt arms and the seat upgrade will all make it easier and more comfortable to use. I broke my back years ago, so hefting fuel jugs up to shoulder high isn't my idea of a good time. I could do it, but now I don't have to. I also want my wife to be able to use the tractor, and those things will make it easier for her as well. She's not going to be able to just shove a 500 or 600 pound implement and get it to budge enough to line up hitch pins.

We also got hydo for much the same reason. Also will be doing lots of loader work and hydro seems to be the way to go for that and so far I'm happy with that decision. Through the research I did, I didn't find that over heating was an issue for these.

I wanted rear remotes so adding those to the XG price took a bit of the sting out of the XR upgrade, it already has them.

I'm still new to all this so don't have a deep knowledge to really help, but that's what I did :D

I'm new to this as well. All my tractor experience, except for the couple times I rented something, is 1960's and 1970's vintage....didn't have so many things to consider. pogobill made the same the suggestion about the remotes. Adding those would eat up some of the money I would have saved.
