Ok, I admit it. I'm getting hard of hearing and didn't realize that stupid "beeb, beep, beep" isn't just the constant ringing in my ears.

Rather it was the parking brake I left on while driving forward on my new tractor. I kept wondering why the crazy tractor was lugging like it was. :ashamed:

Anyway, I finally figured out why the tractor was coming to such a sudden stop and let off the parking brake. I guess I had driven around the back of the rental garage and into the back yard about 500 feet or so.

The parking brakes don't seem to hold as well as I thought they did on an incline now. Does anyone know how to tighten up the parking brakes?

I've read the manual, and it only makes a bare reference to adjusting the right and left brakes. You have to take off the cover located on the left side of the steering tower. There are two thumb screws holding it on.

I've seen the elongated "nuts" used for tightening the right and left brakes in that area. Is this what is used to tighten up the parking brakes too?

On automobiles, this is very similar.

Thanks in advance!

Im thinking your parking brake is of the same design as my R4041. Mine is somehow tied in with the foot brake. I find that if I press the foot brake, then apply the park brake it gets a pretty good bite. Might work the same way for yours..

Same with mine. There is a small section in the owner's manual that briefly speaks of adjusting the brakes per the method I wrote about above. I'm thinking this should work for the parking brakes. Hopefully I can get the adjustment made this weekend and see how it turns out.

BTW, the correct way to apply the parking brake and take the parking brake off is to push down on both brake pedals at the same time and either apply the parking brake or remove it. That part is also in the manual.

On mine, I can hit the highest "click" of the parking brake handle, and the parking brakes still do not hold when I'm on an incline. And, the incline doesn't have to be that steep either. That's also the reason I'm thinking of the brake adjustment may take care of the issue. We shall see.
