I am looking for my first tractor which I want to use for plowing/tilling, brush hog, gravel/dirt work (some), and lifting logs (occassionaly, not even very month). Tractor would pretty much just be used on weekends, and then probably not even every weekend. Have 40 acres.
I am looking for
40-50hp
4wd/MFWD
Loader & bucket
I have found an older tractor (1996) for around 15k, 50hp with a lift capacity of around 2500. So its an older/heavier tractor which would be good for lifting....
.....but.....
I started looking at other tractors (LS XR4046 & Mahindra 4025 & Kioti DK55 (2yrs old, 300hrs)) and they are only 6-7k more than the 1996 one. Is the extra money worth a new tractor that has less hp but the same lifting capacity? Just because it can lift the same or more, doesn't mean the tractor itself can handle it compared to and older heavier tractor.
Also, it is 6-7k which I could use to buy other things, implements, or tools.
Its an investment either way, I am just having a hard time justifying the extra money when the older tractor will do everything I need.
"Large tractors can do small jobs, but small tractors can't do large jobs" sticks with me when looking at these newer compacts.
I do want the ability to lift a larger log when the time comes and put it on a trailer.
Just looking for thoughts, even though they will probably just confuse me more. lol
