New Holland Boomer 55
I am looking at a new LS XR4155HC. Cab, hydro, 3 remotes, loaded R4 tires, FEL. I can buy it for $32,000 delivered.
1. Is that a good price?
2. Is it a good tractor?
3. What else should I look at?
Local dealers are New Holland, Kubota, John Deere, two small LS dealers.

One concern about LS tractors is the dealers are small. What do I do about service if they disappear?

I currently have a Case DX33 with FEL which I will sell. The property has approximately 30+ acres of fields, 120 acres of woods with logging roads, house has a 300 foot driveway. Primary uses are brush hogging, maintaining logging roads, and snow plowing. Located in Central New York.

Thanks,
TJ

That seems like a good price. I live way up North of you in NY. I bought an XR4145HC last year for 32,700. It only has 2 remotes, but that came with loaded tires, third function, and wheel spacers installed.

Depending on where you are in NY, check out RanMar tractor in Pulaski. It's a mom and pop place but very reputable, and they have been carrying LS tractors since they first came to the US. They beat my local dealers quote by about $1,500 but were significantly farther away, and couldn't offer free delivery of the tractor, and free transport for warranty issues, which my dealer did.

Third function would be an additional $1,200. Pulaski is two hours away ,too far. Thanks

I have an older model bought new in 2014 (XR3037HC). 6 years old and never had to take it in for any repairs. Ranmar is my place to go for parts. Mainly filters and one mirror I had to replace. I don't farm so main uses are snow plowing / removal, moving dirt and stone, and lifting. A friend of mine bought an XR4140HC w/ BH last year I believe from Paige tractor and he's been happy with his. Your price seems very fair to me. I do my own service and I have my own trailer to transport the tractor.

The xr4155 is being replaced by a new model, the mt357 (57 hp instead of 55). Pretty much the same tractor with a few upgrades.

It’s kinda on the ls website if you search for it, but it’s not completely updated.

That sounds like a great price to me.

As far as service and parts go, I know some LS tractors (like mine) have a New Holland equivalent. I'm not sure about the XRs in that HP range, but I think the lower HP XRs are equivalent to the New Holland boomer series. You may check, and that'll at least give you a way to get parts, and you may check with them on if they'll service it (hey, if I buy this LS, will y'all work on it?). Or, tell them what you're looking for and see if they'll price match the LS.

LS dealers arent as plentiful.....but LS tractors arent likely going anywhere.

Why?

New Holland tractors under 75hp......are LS tractors with different stickers. LS makes them for NH. LS makes tractors for CASE as well (under a similar HP rating).

I was looking at both NH and CASE tractors and the salesman told me this, its also easy to find on the internet.

IF the big guys are using LS tractors and rebadging them, there likely wont be a parts supply issue.

Exactly. One reason I had no concerns about buying LS. Luckily, my dealer is top notch and selling a lot of units. He is not going away anytime soon.

I ended up buying a New Holland Boomer 55 cab w/fel, used 125 hours. A couple of thousand more than new LS. The reason...service. The local New Holland/Case dealer is large, has a huge repair shop and is 15 minutes away. When I had a problem with my Case DX33 they were quick to help and when I’ve needed parts they got them quickly. The LS dealer is an hour away and is a small lawn mower shop that happens to sell LS tractors.
It kills me knowing that the Boomer is essentially the same as the LS but costs much more. But long term parts and service are what will keep the tractor running.
LS needs a larger established dealer network, dealers with experience in tractors and farm equipment.

My New Holland dealer was pissed when I went with LS. I asked him why I should pay more for essentially the same machine and he had no rebuttal.

I understand why you paid more to get the dealer. I had two decent LS dealers so LS was the logical choice for me. My inverted blower wound up being free.

My NH dealer is who TOLD me about LS tractors. I didn't even know they existed. I was looking at a Boomer 50.....he said "You know that's an LS with NH decals on it and marked up about $10k".

Told him he's unlikely to sell it quick with that sales pitch.

He said it'll take longer for sure...but when he does he will have a clear conscious.

Have any of you that went with LS instead of New Holland spoke to your NH dealer about servicing or parts for the LS? Is it something they are willing and able to do?

I'm asking because I was considering a Boomer 45 or 50, but my New Holland dealer has none and has no clue when he might get more. However, there is an LS dealer about twice as far away and they have models in stock.

I asked the local New Holland dealer if they would service a LS tractor and they said no.

Talk to your dealer. He may understand about the supply issue and agree to help you out. Of course, he could not cover warranty work at no charge.

I've ordered parts from the new Holland dealer and just told him I had a workmaster 40. If I buy a part that doesn't fit, that's my problem, not his, so I've never understood the "I'm not selling you this part you need because your tractor says LS instead of New Holland on the side" mentality.
