I have an LT1000 that is several years old. I don't know the exact year but I would guess early 2000's. I bought it used. I need to run it with the choke pulled about 1/3 to 1/2 way out. If I do not, after a short amount of time, the tractor will "surge" is the best way I have to discribe it. Sort of rev up and down while it is running. Any idea what I need to look at regarding this issue. I have cleaned the air filter.

Also, the left side of the mowing deck is noticably further forward than the right side. Is this a problem. Would this be the tie rods in the front? I could not get the right one to adjust. I am wondering if something is bent. My wife hit a rock and bent a blade and also broke the little "L" shaped bracket on the right. I replaced it. I know notice the difference in position but I cannot say that it was or was not like that before.

Thanks

Hello my dad bought an LT 1000 in 2003 with 16 HP and 42" belly mower. We have 2.2 acres and we have run the heck out of it:mad:. Its too much land for that tractor, I think he sees it now being that it has totally died twice. But my dad is a small engine wizard and each time he has revived it, he is so cruel:(. He is just cheap. If U think yours runs bad U should hop on ours, hehe. Needless to say I am going to buy something this year I really like, because I deserve it. I hope U have better luck.

Suggest cleaning the governor to carburetor linkage and throttle plate on carburetor. If that doesn't work disassemble and clean the carburetor.

Don't know about the deck but if it isn't broken (cuts okay) don't fix it.

Short answer, no.

On most lawn tractors with a mower deck that has two blades will be slightly angled, this is so the right blade will slightly overlap the cut path of the left blade. Thus preventing a thin strip of uncut grass. This also aids in moving the cuttings to the right side and out the discharge chute/opening.

On the same note, when servicing the mower deck i.e. changing belt, blades, make sure you have the blades timed correctly. This is done on most mowers by setting one blade so it sits front to back, and the other sits left to right. ( l -- ) Check your owners manual for the correct timing for your mower. Timing is important to preventing the possibility of the blade tips touching as they pass when turning.

Now happy tractoring and welcome to TBN:D
