I've been looking at the 1000 series tractors for the last couple of weeks and have somewhat settled on the LT-1045.

I went to my local Home Depot this afternoon and was surprised to find some of their 1045's with single cylinder motors and others with V-twins. (I thought it only came with the single, but I see from other posts on this site that they have both).

Any suggestions as to what would be the better motor?

I would suspect that the single cylinder may have a bit more torque?

Are there any maintenance or reliability issues with either motor?

Any advice would be apreciated......Looks like I may be buying one this weekend, my old MTD is on it's last legs.

Thanks for your help.

Single will be better on gas, but twin will be quieter and smoother. Maintenance and reliability should be about equal. I'd go with the twin because of less vibration and being a bit quieter.

Guys,

Thanks much for the fast replies!!!

Now I have another one for you......I stayed up until 1AM looking through this website and saw several issues regarding problems with the hydrostatic transmissions.

My yard is relatively flat.....The tractor will be used mostly for mowing, but I do pull a loaded yard cart once in awhile (approx 300-400 lbs). I also like to roll the yard once a year (in fact that's what did in the rear end of my 14 yr old MTD!)

Am I in for trouble doing this?

Should I be looking at another brand of mower (maybe a Deere)?

Thanks again for any advise.

NO, the transmission should be just what you need considering your land lay out. You should love this machine. Good luck purchasing and keep us posted!
