Four times? Five, now?

The spring in question is labeled #14 in the diagram that I hope will appear here.

I don't think there is a wrong way to attach it. I think it can be attached rotated 180-deg. on its long axis, but don't see how that would put any different stresses on it.

I am going to go ahead and replace it again, and maybe this time I will pay the JD premium for the gen-yu-wine part, but I have no reason to doubt the sellers I use on eBay for half the price.

They always break somewhere along the middle of the spring.

It hooks on the shaft of a pulley at one end and on an end of the idler rocker at the other.

It doesn't seem to be a matter of hitting anything in the lawn.

This is really not working for me, and I hope someone knows what the problem is.

BTW, I posted last year about great problems taking the deck on and off, and later found out the very simple but very obscure answer, which has to do with the Freedom 42 deck specifically. I will add the URL of that thread in a following post.
