LT 2180 Valve adjustment

Hi,

I have a hard starting LT 2180 that I believe needs the valves adjusted. Battery and starter are good. This has to be a dumb question, but how do I spin the motor manually to get the valves in a position to adjust them? Since this mower has the hydrostatic tranny, I'm not sure how to do this. Thank you.

Remove the spark plugs, and turn the flywheel by hand to get them into position. Normal direction of travel is clockwise if looking at the flywheel. Some mowers disengage the tranny drive system when you push down the clutch/brake pedal, so that may ease turning over everything.

OP - that's a Brigg's vanguard engine in that machine, right? If so, best you have the brigg's serv manual for valve adj on hand before starting wrenching. procedure is a bit detailed. Chk the briggs website - don't think the manual is a freebie.

Yes it is. I have the valve clearance. Not sure what else I would need? I will check the manual as you suggest. Still not sure how I can turn the motor. I don't an easy way to get to the flywheel. Thanks.

might be that if you take out plugs to relieve compression and then remove tunnel cover to access shaft drive back to tranny you might be able to get a strap wrench or such in there to turn it AND the engine's crankshaft at the same time.... rather than trying to access flywheel from the front?
