LT1042 PTO dead

I pulled deck to clean, when putting back together I was not sure where the belt guard that goes over PTO aligned with PTO. There are 2 slots in the PTO, thought one side of the guard was to be in one of the slots on the PTO. Might have put in wrong slot on first try. Blew fuse when PTO engaged. Took bracket off, put on other slot on PTO, PTO still not working but not blowing fuses. Any ideas? Is there a good diagram available that shows where the bracket should be positioned around the PTO? Could I have toasted the PTO (electric)?

Did the PTO assembly rotate around on you when you cranked the engine over? You might have torn the wiring harness out of it, or yanked it hard enough to break insulation, now it's shorting out.

The connector pigtale is sealed into the unit, but I have read where a talented feller or two were able to take the PTO apart and rewire it successfully. A bit beyond my scope!

Yup, after I posted, I found that the wires had separated. Tried splicing together, still nothing so guessing they are also pulled out inside the unit itself. Thanks for reply.

Try to Google "broken PTO wiring" or the likes. There may even be a YouTube video of someone opening one up to repair. The other option is replace the whole PTO with new, but they're a nightmare to remove from the crankshaft and they're crazy expensive.
