I have a 2005 or 2006 LT1042 Cub Cadet. It will not turn over, yet the lights are extremely bright, the reads 12.7 volts pre-startup. It doesn't even crank. After much trial and error, I disconnected the tractor battery and jumpered the car directly to the tractor. The engine started up right away. As soon as I disconnect tghe car jumper, the mower stops. Is this an alternator or regulator issue? Not mechanically educated. Any help woulod be appreciated. The grass is gettin high and the rain just keeps coming. So much for my window of oppertunity!

Thanks in advance.

That engine needs to stay hooked up to a battery to keep running after jump-starting it.
M/W, suspect that either your ignition switch, seat switch or starter solenoid could be bad - takes a bit of electrical tracing to find it. If you know how, go for it. If not, mebbe best to get some shop help.

I could have sworn I have run it like that before when the battery was no good. I'll hook up the battery again and jump it to see if it stays running.

I have the seat switch disabled. The solenoid was just replaced about two years ago. I am hoping it's not that again, I appreciate the help. I'll give it a whirl. If it turns out to be solenoid, I'll take it to the local tractor shop. Prettyy resonable.

Thanks for your time.

Big difference between bad battery and no battery.

I'm thinkin you have a bad connection either positive or ground since things work when removed and moved around.. Check & clean your connections.. As far as the motor dying the charging systems on those engines only work if they sense a battery and it's voltage..

Thanks everyone. Yeah, I see they are a closed system now. I hooked up the battery again and jumped it with the car. Started fine and remained running. My mobile charger either is shot or has dirty clamps. I appreciate all of the help! Thanks!
