so, I snapped the drive belt the other day. a twig got wedged in between the belt and pulley...

anyways, got the new belt.. took the deck off, looked up... Huh....

How do I go about putting the new one on? does the PTO clutch come off? is it spring loaded or anything?
I dont have air tools.. so I am not sure about being able to get the PTO clutch off if necessary..
any other, easy ways to replace it?

thanks..

Nobody has changed a drive belt?

new question, is the PTO clutch spring loaded? there is a brace that keeps it in place, if i remove this, is there tension on it that I have to worry about?

There is no tension on the clutch, you do have to remove the brace.

I've never replaced a drive belt on a 1046 before, but i doubt there is much difference between it and the belt drive system on my SLT 1554. I had to removed the PTO clutch (which was not very difficult, only one bolt holding it on) the clutch will slide straight down to expose the the belt pulley on your motor output shaft. The shaft is keyed to accept the PTO clutch, the PTO can only go on the shaft one way. The hardest part was routing the belt around the large pulley on the drive axle at the rear of the tractor. Be sure you re-route the belt properly so the belt tensioner does its job. It is not a difficult job to replace it, maybe a 45 minute job if you are taking your time.
